Hello Families!
Are you cold enough yet? We are feeling like we are in the Arctic, so what a better time than to talk about how penguins and other animals survive the extreme cold.
We will have fun learning about these funny looking birds that don't fly, but waddle!
Here is a Peek of the Week:
Monday - We will be introduced to penguins by reading and discussing the facts about Arctic animals.
Tuesday- We will make penguins with their bellies full of krill.( fish food)
Wednesday- We will make an Arctic dessert! (Ice blue Jell-o and swedish fish.)
Thursday- We will do an experiment with ice water and how blubber keeps the penguin warm.
Friday- We will be making some adorable Penguin puppets.
Here is some of our vocabulary words for this week: penguin, waddle, krill, slide, Arctic, blubber, chick, insulation, beak, huddle.
Please have your child bring in anything that pertains to the theme, or anything that is black and white.

Winter Sports and Ice
Happy New Year dear families!
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful winter break and made lots of new memories with your child.
We are off to a new year and new possibilities and growth.
We continue to embrace Minnesota winters and look for ways to stay active despite the cold weather. Does your family have a favorite activity during these winter months? Please talk to your child and have them come to school with a story they can share.
If your child enjoys a winter sport, maybe they can draw a picture of that and bring it in to talk about.
Here is a Peek of the Week:
Monday- Teacher Work Day
Tuesday- We will pretend to go on mini vacations and pack some suitcases, one for the warm temperatures, and the other for a colder climate. We will discuss what activities we can do for each climate.
Wednesday- We will look at an assortment of different winter sport equipment and talk about how to use them. ( If your child ice skates, or plays hockey, goes sledding, etc. this would be a great time to bring in an object to share.)
Thursday- We will have a special guest come in and talk to the group about ice hockey.
Friday- We will have fun learning how to glide and dance on our special ice skates!
Here is some of the vocabulary- ice castle, ice fishing house, ice fishing, ice rink, slide, toboggan, snow tubing, chairlift, downhill skiing, to glide, cross country skiing, bobsled, snow shoes, thin/thick ice, figure skates, ice auger, ice sculptures, figure skating, ice hockey, snowboarding, skis, snow hikers.
